Don't be alarmed if you log onto the forums today and see a ton of posts from us on news topics -- it's all part of the GamePro"News Experiment."
Starting today, GamePro editors now have a"News Flash"feature on the forums that allows us to drop quick headlines and links to the top stories of the day making the rounds on various news sites. This new system is temporarily replacing ourGame_Pro_News Twitter feedand we're done with theMissing Links seriesfor now.
- What this means:
- --Your news gets to you faster.
Every site on the internet has a different take on the same 10 headlines we're bound to see every day (and you'll still get our take, don't worry). But why should you have to wait around for us to form an opinion when we can deliver the facts straight to you as we hear them?
- --You get to discuss the news with your GamePro community.
We've always believed that the real news in any news story is how you, the reader, feel about it. Our commenting system is getting a makeover to make this happen on other GamePro content (reviews, previews, features) -- but we want the news conversation to start happeningnow. So hop overto the forumsand get on it. It's like your civic duty to the video games industry.
- --You (sort of) get to make the news if you post something to the forum that we think needs to be"News Flashed."
Already, some of you are posting to News Flash headlines stuff like"I already started a thread on this!"Understand that our News Flashes aren't supposed to upstage your threads -- they're just popping the headline out there for all to see. Feel free to move news conversations onto brand new threads if you think the discussion needs more space.
- What this does NOT mean:
- --We won't write major news stories anymore.
Not every headline we see is worth a major 1000-word story on a complex topic (e.g. Tetris sugar cubes), but when we do see something worth the ink, expect us to bust out our journalism chops.
- --We won't cover major press events like tradeshows or preview showcases.
Psh, yeah right. Wild horses couldn't keep us away from E3, PAX, or new hotness like a 3DS reveal. Whatever we get our hands on is just more news we can bring straight to you.
- --We don't care about accuracy in reporting.
Shortening news to a headline for the News Flash section will not come at the expense of the facts.
If you're avoiding our forums for some reason, you can still get your headlines in the Mini Feed section of theGamePro homepage(scroll down past the video player and the Most Popular Games section).
Thanks so much for your patience with our GamePro News Experiment. We hope to have some results to share with you soon, and we're always happy to have your feedback either here,in the forums, or via ournews hotline.
